Daggerheart is a new tabletop roleplaying game set in a world of fantastical magic and perilous adventure. The most important part: you make this game your own — telling personal and immersive stories through the characters you play and the world you build together. One player is the Game Master (GM), who guides the other players through the game and details how the world responds to their actions. Sometimes you'll succeed, sometimes you'll fail, but the Hope and Fear of the dice will guide where your story goes next.
Daggerheart Playtesting Program:
Curious about playtesting? We have a few frequently asked questions below, but if something isn't covered here or you'd like additional information, please reach out to the playtesting contact email on top of the sign-up survey or via our website contact form. Please do not send Daggerheart playtest program questions to other Brieger Creative or Darrington Press emails.

In a playtest, you'll play a draft version of the game that is not yet final, then provide feedback about your experience. We want to understand your experience with a game and use that understanding to improve the game before it is released.
During the playtesting program, we'll be sending out prototype versions of the Daggerheart game materials. Your play may be moderated or observed by a member of our development or design team who will interview you, or it might be unguided with a postgame survey for you to report data.
After a round of testing where we collect information from multiple games, we update the game materials and begin a new round with updated materials and new players.
Playtesting isn't just about finding what's broken or imbalanced - it's also about finding the things that are great about a game and making sure they shine. We want Daggerheart to be the best it can be, which means gathering a broad array of perspectives to give us feedback before release.
If you've submitted your survey and haven't received a response yet, don't worry! We collect submissions for a while before we start to put together testing pools.
We have several planned phases of testing, and confirmations for testing cycles will go out on a rolling basis over the coming months. Some testers that sign up now won't be placed in pools until early 2024. That way, we have fresh eyes on each set of updates and iterations.
Design and testing is an iterative process, so not being part of a specific cycle of testers doesn't mean we won't select you for future waves. We want fresh sets of eyes on every update, so we purposely spread qualified candidates for testing across the program instead of putting them all in the first batch.
In many cases, some of the people we MOST want to test the game are placed later in the playtesting process, such as testing for visual accessibility with near-final graphic design or brand new players to a genre learning a game from the near final rules.
We recommend groups composed of a Game Master (GM) and 2-5 other players, though it is possible to play with more.
For testing phases that don't require a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), you will be given instructions for submitting your group information when you are sent the game materials. You'll just be able to meet up and start playing any time after one of your group is selected, and you'll submit your group's information at the end of your first session of play.
For most tests requiring NDA’s, you will be given instructions on how to submit names to be part of your testing group ahead of your first session. So if you’re invited, you can bring your group with you! There are some restrictions on eligibility for NDA’d tests, and you won’t be able to begin your playtest until all players in your group are approved and have signed their own NDAs.
We will have options for both online and in person play at most stages of testing.
The majority of tests will consist of players playing together using printed game materials in their home or a friend's home. There will be some in-person testing events and groups that are moderated by our development team.
Many stages of testing also allow you to playtest online using a variety of methods — some online tests we will facilitate directly, while in others you'll be able to assemble your own group and use any tools you might already use to play remotely.
Two of the questions on the signup form allow you to opt in for press and media contacts. If you fill the sign-up form out, you're all set!
